The composition captures the relaxed elegance of a summer afternoon by the sea. The central figure, dressed in a flowing blue and white gown, walks barefoot beside the water, her pale parasol providing a graceful focal point against the expansive coastal landscape. Charlot employs expressive, textured brushwork and a soft palette of blues, creams, lavender and warm sandy tones to create a wonderful sense of light and movement. In the distance, sailing boats punctuate the horizon beneath a luminous cloud-filled sky, while reflections and loosely worked passages of colour animate the shoreline. The painting is signed “Marie Charlot” to the lower right and presented within an ornate gilt frame, complementing the romantic character and decorative quality of the composition. An attractive statement painting with considerable interior appeal, particularly suited to traditional, coastal, French-inspired and classically decorated interiors.
