Executed in acrylic on board, the composition depicts a boldly stylised dodo emerging from a dynamic abstract landscape of sweeping lines, layered forms and richly saturated colour. The bird is rendered with playful exaggeration and expressive movement, giving the work an engaging character while retaining a distinctly modern artistic language. Huntermann's confident handling of line and colour creates a strong sense of rhythm throughout the composition. Earthy tones are combined with more vibrant passages, while the swirling forms of the background blur the distinction between figurative representation and abstraction. The work is signed by the artist to the lower right and retains a label verso identifying the painting. It is presented within a clean neutral mount that complements the composition without distracting from its strong graphic qualities. Spate Huntermann, also known as Robert Hunt, was an active figure within the British art community. He served as President of the United Society of Artists from 2005 to 2008 and was associated with the Dorking Group of Artists and Suffolk Open Studios. In addition to his modern compositions, Hunt worked successfully as a portrait painter during his years in Cornwall. The acrylic-painted surface remains in very good condition, with no visible significant losses. The colours remain strong and vibrant, with only minor handling marks consistent with age and medium. The board remains structurally sound and the work presents extremely well. An engaging example of modern British painting, combining humour, expressive draughtsmanship and a distinctive approach to colour and abstraction. Dodo would make a particularly characterful addition to a collection of modern British art or a contemporary interior. See less
