Executed in oil on board, the work demonstrates Taylor's characteristically painterly approach, using confident, impressionistic brushwork to capture the changing effects of light and atmosphere. His marine and river compositions are particularly admired for their understated palette and ability to evoke the character of the British landscape. Taylor's work follows the tradition of 20th-century British landscape painting, with an emphasis on mood and immediacy rather than precise topographical detail. His fluid handling of paint and sensitivity to changing weather and light lend his landscapes a distinctive atmospheric quality. At 30 inches wide, the painting has an attractive scale and strong decorative presence, making it suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors. The painting is signed at the lower right and is additionally signed and titled by Ivan Taylor on the reverse, providing further confirmation of authorship and the identity of the subject. About Ivan Taylor Ivan Taylor (born 1946) is a British painter from Staffordshire known particularly for his landscapes, marine subjects, river scenes and townscapes. Taylor demonstrated an unusually early interest in painting. At the age of twelve, a group of his works was exhibited on the BBC television programme Sketch Club, with the paintings subsequently sold to raise funds for UNICEF. He later studied Fine Art and Graphics at Stoke and Stafford Colleges before pursuing a career as a graphic artist. He eventually became Head of Graphics for Staffordshire County Council's Education Department. Taylor held his first solo exhibition in 1972 and became a full-time professional painter in 1989. Since then, his paintings have been exhibited and collected extensively in Britain and internationally, with works entering collections in the United States, Canada, Australia and South Africa. His paintings are particularly recognisable for their loose, impressionistic handling and atmospheric treatment of light, placing his work firmly within the continuing tradition of Modern British landscape and marine painting.
