This exemplary piece is characteristic of the Baotou weaving tradition, known for its minimalist yet impactful designs that distinguish it among antique rugs. The central field features a powerful, geometric medallion rendered in rich, saturated indigo, establishing a commanding focal point against the luminous ground.

The palette is highly restrained, utilizing a warm, luminous camel ground that provides a striking contrast to the deep, resonant indigo and lighter sky tones. This limited color scheme emphasizes the clarity and structure of the design, a hallmark of fine Chinese weaving. The careful selection of dyes places this piece within the esteemed category of blue color rugs where the pigment quality defines the artwork.

Flanking the central medallion are stylized floral sprays, often interpreted as chrysanthemums, rendered with graceful simplicity. These organic motifs balance the strict geometry of the central device. The complex border system frames the composition with traditional Chinese key patterns and geometric repeating elements, creating a sense of disciplined order.

Measuring approximately four feet in length, this piece functions perfectly as a decorative scatter size rug or a focal point in a smaller, intimate setting. Its enduring quality and sophisticated aesthetic, combining traditional Chinese symbolism with the restrained Baotou style, make it a superb example of early 20th-century textile art. See less
