the patt 23 was introduced by strand electric in 1953 and produced until 1983. Designed by morgan mcleod, it became a standard small spotlight in british theatres, schools and television studios. The 23n is the larger variant, with a 6 inch lens in place of the standard 3.5 inch, narrowing the beam from about 22 degrees to about 11 degrees. This tight beam made it a common follow spot.

the spotlight was polished to bare metal and rewired with an e27 fitting, approximately 3 metres of cord, an inline switch and an eu plug. A bulb is included. It carries a domed plano-convex glass lens and can be aimed on the tripod, which has a single fixed height.

the spotlight has been renovated. A small area at the front was damaged in the past and has been repaired; this is visible in the photographs.

the spotlight measures 42 x 28 x 33 cm and the overall height is 115 cm.
