It carries the old siemens logo with the double s.

for much of theatre history the stage was lit from the floor by candles, oil and gas, until electric light arrived at london's savoy theatre in 1881. Electric strip lights followed in two forms: footlights on the floor and battens hung overhead from the flies. Both were built as a long metal housing with a row of lamps, each with its own reflector. The double s is the mark of siemens-schuckert, which siemens and halske acquired in 1903. The company merged into siemens ag in 1966 and the logo remained in use until the late 1960s, which places this batten before that merger.

the batten has been renovated and rewired for use in an interior, with approximately 3 metres of cable, an eu plug and an inline switch. Each position takes a standard e27 bulb. Bulbs are not included.

the batten shows signs of age and use consistent with its period.

it measures 106 x 17.5 x 24 cm and can stand upright, lie flat, or hang from chains.
