The top rail sweeps into curved arms that taper down into slender splayed legs, so the wood reads as one continuous line. The channel-tufted back fans out like a shell. It is upholstered in a textured oatmeal basket-weave with fine charcoal flecks, finished with self-welt piping. The tailored seat sits on a clean wood apron. The back is as finished as the front: wood-trimmed panels run down the rear with the same fabric, so it looks good floating in a room.

Wide, deep and low-slung, it is a comfortable chair for reading, and it works as an accent chair in a living room, bedroom or study. The neutral fabric fits most palettes, and the warm maple stands out against it.

Good vintage condition with honest signs of age and use:

Wood: some darkening and wear on the arm tops, minor scratches and small finish nicks along the back rail, and light scuffs on the leg feet
Upholstery: structurally sound and clean, with light soiling and a few tiny dark flecks on the back panel (see photos)
