This exquisite example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving presents a highly desirable aesthetic typical of the Peking tradition. Its dimensions classify it as a small scatter size, making it an ideal accent piece for hallways, landings, or intimate spaces where a burst of historical color is required.

The deep, saturated indigo field provides a dramatic backdrop for the scattered floral and vine motifs, rendered primarily in soft beige and cream tones. This use of a rich, dark ground is characteristic of the finest blue color rugs from the period, offering a visual depth that modern reproductions rarely capture. A delicate central roundel anchors the composition without disrupting the overall sense of open space.

Framing the vibrant field is a striking border in a warm, camel-gold hue, featuring stylized scrolling vines and subtle dark green accents. The contrast between the cool, deep indigo and the sun-drenched gold creates a sophisticated balance, highlighting the masterful dyeing techniques employed by these antique rugs artisans at the turn of the century.

Woven entirely in high-quality wool, this piece retains the soft, pliable handle and rich patina expected of a century-old textile. It serves not merely as floor covering, but as a tangible piece of Chinese decorative history, offering restrained elegance and timeless design suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
