Originally designed as a practical yet fashionable furnishing for a drawing room or sitting room, this elegant table features two drawers, a pair of hinged drop leaves, and beautifully turned legs terminating in brass casters. Its compact form and versatile design reflect the Regency preference for furniture that was both graceful and functional. The wonderfully figured rosewood, contrasting inlay, and understated elegance make this a particularly appealing example of English Regency craftsmanship, equally suited to a traditional interior or a thoughtfully furnished contemporary home.

Constructed with richly figured rosewood veneers, the table displays striking grain patterns and a deep, warm patina developed over nearly two centuries. The rectangular top is flanked by two hinged drop leaves, allowing the surface to be expanded when needed while maintaining a compact footprint when closed. Delicate brass and satinwood inlay provides subtle contrast along the edges and vertical supports, complementing the natural beauty of the rosewood. Two drawers are fitted with turned wooden knobs and small keyhole escutcheons, offering convenient storage for sewing accessories, writing implements, or personal belongings. The table is supported by four beautifully turned and tapered legs, each terminating in a brass caster for easy movement. The combination of finely figured veneers, restrained decorative inlay, and graceful proportions reflects the sophisticated yet practical character of Regency furniture.

The table is in nice antique condition, showing scattered surface marks, minor scratches, small veneer imperfections, and variations in color and finish consistent with its considerable age and normal use. There is some sun fading to the top, along with minor losses to the decorative brass inlay on the back of the table. These imperfections are consistent with the piece's long history and do not significantly detract from its overall appearance. The rosewood retains an attractive depth of color and natural character, with the contrasting inlay adding visual interest to its elegant design. The two drawers provide useful storage, while the hinged drop leaves offer flexibility for a variety of uses. Whether placed beside a sofa, used as an occasional writing table, or incorporated into a bedroom or sitting room, this lovely Regency work table offers a wonderful combination of historic craftsmanship, timeless design, and everyday practicality. 30h x 20w x 18d closed 36w open See less
