This exquisite Peking production piece exemplifies the refined aesthetic of early 20th-century Chinese weaving. Its generous dimensions classify it perfectly among room size rugs, designed to anchor a primary living space with historical elegance and commanding presence.

The central field is dominated by a rich, saturated indigo, providing a dramatic backdrop characteristic of the finest blue color rugs from this period. This deep hue contrasts beautifully with the soft, muted gold and tan tones of the primary border, creating a sophisticated visual depth that prevents the design from feeling overly busy.

The design utilizes a classic open-field layout, featuring gracefully scattered bouquets of chrysanthemums and plum blossoms, rendered in soft creams, ochres, and subtle browns. These delicate, naturalistic elements place the piece firmly within the tradition of floral rugs, showcasing the skilled artistry of the Peking weavers who favored symbolic, understated ornamentation over dense patterning.

Woven from high-quality wool, this textile retains exceptional pile condition and color integrity, a testament to its careful preservation over the last century. Such well-maintained examples are highly sought after by collectors of antique rugs, offering a tangible connection to the luxurious decorative arts of the Republican Era in China. See less
