This substantial vase features a classic baluster form with a flared rim, a sturdy base, and two stylized sculpted handles on the neck. It masterfully combines two highly revered traditional Chinese ceramic techniques.
The background features a beautiful, intentionally created "crackle" glaze (开片)—a delicate network of dark lines that resembles shattered ice, giving it a distinct antique and Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. Overlaid on this textured background is a dynamic, hand-painted dragon motif. The ferocious, cobalt blue dragon is depicted winding around the body, accented by striking underglaze red stylized clouds and flames. In Chinese culture, the dragon is a powerful symbol of strength, good fortune, and imperial authority.
