This substantial jar features a classic, full-bodied, and rounded shape with a short neck. Unlike crisp, modern porcelain, this piece boasts a beautiful cream-colored glaze with an all-over, fine "crackle" (Ge) pattern—a delicate network of lines that gives it a distinctively aged, antique, and Wabi-Sabi aesthetic.
The main body is hand-painted in rich cobalt blue, featuring a large and dynamic Phoenix (Fenghuang) motif. The majestic mythical bird is depicted in mid-flight with detailed plumage, surrounded by stylized scrolling flames, clouds, and waves. The shoulders are decorated with a classic ruyi/cloud border, and the base features a band of stylized lotus petals. In Chinese culture, the phoenix is a highly auspicious symbol representing peace, prosperity, and harmony.
