This magnificent vase features the classic Meiping (Plum Vase) silhouette, characterized by a small mouth, a short neck, a broad, high shoulder, and a slender tapering body. It is decorated in a vibrant, eye-catching imperial yellow ground.
The most captivating feature is the raised (relief-carved) dragon motif. A dynamic, green-scaled dragon with red accents is depicted winding its way around the body, surrounded by raised, colorful stylized clouds (ruyi clouds). The base is finished with a band of upright green and gray plantain leaves (or lotus petals). The textured, three-dimensional quality of the dragon and clouds adds incredible depth and tactile appeal to the piece. In Chinese culture, the dragon is a powerful symbol of strength, good fortune, and imperial authority.
