This stunning vase features a classic hexagonal (six-sided) form, with a flared rim, a faceted neck, and a bulbous body. The entire piece is richly decorated, combining several complex traditional techniques.
The background is a brilliant cobalt blue ground, covered in an intricate, delicate geometric diaper pattern (reminiscent of zhadao sgraffito). Beautiful large "cartouches" (开光) panels are framed in thick, luxurious gilded (gold) lines, which give the vase an architectural, almost Cloisonné-like aesthetic. Inside the main panels, highly detailed and vibrant scenes unfold, featuring majestic peacocks and white cranes perched among blooming peonies, pine branches, and rocky terrains. These motifs are classic symbols of longevity, wealth, and high rank in Chinese culture.
