It is exquisitely hand-painted in the traditional Famille Rose (Fencai) palette against a pristine white background.
The main body is adorned with a lively and continuous aquatic scene featuring Koi fish (carp) swimming gracefully among blooming pink lotus flowers and lush green lily pads. This is a highly auspicious traditional Chinese motif: the word for fish (yu) is a homophone for "abundance," symbolizing a wish for "surplus year after year" (年年有余), while lotus represents purity and harmony.
The lid is decorated with complementary aquatic motifs, while the shoulder and base are framed with striking borders—a scalloped blue and yellow petal band at the top and geometric lappets at the bottom—adding beautiful structure to the piece.
