This is an elegant and meticulously crafted vintage cloisonné enamel box, featuring a vibrant turquoise ground.
The domed lid is decorated with a charming scene of a pair of Mandarin ducks swimming amongst lotus blossoms, lily pads, and stylized waves. The Mandarin duck is a classic Chinese symbol of marital harmony and fidelity. The sides of the box are adorned with a continuous, scrolling floral vine pattern featuring large lavender blossoms with red centers. The base features further lotus and ruyi motifs.
The piece is constructed with a well-fitting lift-off lid and is finished with gilded rims at the join and the base. The interior is coated in a smooth, solid turquoise enamel. This beautifully detailed box is perfect for storing jewelry, trinkets, or small keepsakes, and makes a lovely decorative accent for a vanity or desk.
