This is an elegant matching pair of vintage porcelain candlesticks, crafted in the classic Chinese underglaze red (Youlihong) style.
The candlesticks feature a distinctive, tiered form. The top is modeled as a blooming lotus flower with eight upward-pointing petals, each inscribed with a stylized Sanskrit character. The slender, central stem is flanked by two small, ruyi-shaped handles and is decorated with scrolling floral motifs. The lower section flares out to a base decorated with further underglaze red floral scrolls and stylized Sanskrit characters.
The glaze has a soft, creamy white tone that beautifully contrasts with the slightly blurred, copper-red painted decoration, typical of this firing technique. The underside of each base bears a vertical, apocryphal six-character reign mark in underglaze blue reading "Da Ming Xuan De Nian Zhi" (Made in the Xuande Reign of the Great Ming). These elegant pieces are perfect for holding taper candles or as decorative accents on a mantel or dining table.
