No maker's mark but likely made in the United States in the 1930s.

Classic art deco design details abound on this piece: rounded waterfall edges, original pierced brass and bakelite hardware, bookmatched exotic wood veneers, and etched clear and yellow glass mirrors, and neoclassical themed marquetry inlay.

The arched top of the armoire houses a central "hat box" with an etched mirror on the door, which opens to reveal a spacious storage area (traditionally meant to store hats). There are hidden storage areas on each side of the hat box compartment (behind the yellow glass mirrors).

Below the hat box is a single curved front dovetail jointed drawer above a hidden secretary desk behind a panel that looks like a drawer but drops down to provide a writing surface and numerous pigeonholes for stationary and sundries. Two deep dovetail jointed drawers below the secretary desk provide additional storage, including one drawer with impressive marquetry displaying a classical urn motif.

Two tall doors on each side of the armoire provide cedar lined wardrobe spaces fitted with metal rods for coat hangers. The armoire is mounted on beautifully chunky fluted feet and brass casters for easier mobility.

The early 20th century armoire is in very good antique condition. The case is solid and sturdy. The drawers, doors, drop front desk, and caster wheels function well. Scattered wear and scratches on the wood finish, including veneer losses and repairs. Silvering on the mirror edges. Patina on the original brass hardware, and one drawer pull is missing a section of bakelite. Casters look to be newer and not original. Please see photos for more details about the condition of the piece.

The armoire measures 40" wide, 20" deep, and 70" tall. It cannot be broken into parts for transport. See less
