This exceptional antique rug exemplifies the refined aesthetic of early 20th-century Peking weaving. Its sophisticated design balances traditional Chinese iconography with a modern, expansive layout, characteristic of pieces commissioned for export or high-status domestic use.

The dramatic field is rendered in a saturated, deep indigo, offering a striking backdrop for the complex floral and avian motifs. This rich, profound shade of blue color is characteristic of the finest dyes used during this period, providing depth and luxury to the overall composition when contrasted against the luminous gold and pale tan detailing.

A magnificent circular medallion dominates the center, densely woven with peonies, chrysanthemums, and scrolling vines. Scattered throughout the field, elegant sprays of blossoms and stylized birds of paradise evoke traditional symbols of prosperity, beauty, and longevity, executed with the subtle shading techniques favored by Peking workshops.

The generous dimensions of this piece make it an ideal room size rug, capable of anchoring a major living space or dining area. Framed by a wide, architectural border featuring key-fret patterns and stylized vases, this Peking creation remains a timeless testament to the enduring artistry of Chinese textile production.
