The substantial headboard and footboard are constructed with horizontal paneled boards framed by decorative faux-bamboo moldings. Each is crowned by an open spindled gallery, creating an architectural yet visually light silhouette. Tall corner posts are fashioned to resemble segmented bamboo canes and terminate in prominent turned finials, while additional turned spindles and bamboo-form detailing lend the bed its distinctive exotic character. The warm honey-to-amber stained pine has developed an appealing aged appearance that emphasizes the grain of the wood and contrasts beautifully with the darker recessed areas of the turned decoration. Faux-bamboo furniture enjoyed considerable popularity in France and throughout Europe during the late 19th and early 20th centuries

French faux-bamboo furniture is particularly appealing today because it bridges several decorating styles. Its sculptural turnings provide the character of an antique while its relatively informal appearance prevents it from feeling overly traditional. This bed would make a wonderful focal point in a French Country, Coastal, Bohemian, Eclectic, Cottage or collected contemporary bedroom. See less
