The fireplace is constructed from substantial cast iron and features finely defined period detailing surrounding the central fire opening. Particularly desirable is the survival of the original tiles, which add colour, pattern and historic character while preserving the integrity of the original design. The contrast between the richly decorated ceramic tiles and dark cast iron creates a particularly attractive composition, making the insert an impressive focal point for a drawing room, dining room, bedroom or other period interior. The fireplace has undergone a comprehensive professional refurbishment. The cast iron was carefully stripped and thoroughly cleaned before receiving a protective coating designed to preserve the surface. Traditional grate polish was subsequently applied and carefully buffed, producing a rich dark metallic finish while revealing and accentuating the depth and crispness of the original cast decoration. The retention of the original tiles is an important feature, giving this fireplace considerably more character than examples fitted with later replacement ceramics. A handsome and highly decorative piece of antique architectural salvage, combining original cast iron craftsmanship, period ceramic tiles and a professionally restored finish. Ideally suited to the sympathetic restoration of a period property or as a distinctive architectural feature within a refined interior. width 38"(965mm) x height 38" (965mm) opening width 15.75"(390mm) x opening height 22" (555mm) See less
