Scottie, dating to circa 1900, combining sculptural metalwork with hand-made decorative glass in an elegant example of turn-of-the-century french lighting. The lamp centres upon a finely modelled figural sculpture, executed in bronze or bronze-patinated spelter and displaying the fluid, expressive modelling associated with french art nouveau decorative arts. The richly aged surface has developed an attractive antique bronze patina, enhancing the depth and definition of the sculptural details. Above the figure sits a hand-made bell-form art glass shade, introducing colour and softness to the composition. When illuminated, the glass provides a warm diffused glow and creates an appealing contrast against the darker patinated metalwork. Weighing approximately 10.5 lb, the lamp is particularly substantial for its 52 cm height and has the weight and presence of a decorative sculpture as much as a functional light. The piece is described as artist-signed and associated with a parisian foundry. Period-style details include a b22 bayonet fitting and bakelite components.
