Painted in 1993, the work combines careful naturalistic observation of the bird with a more expressive treatment of the surrounding landscape. The falcon’s finely articulated black-and-white plumage contrasts beautifully against the pale blue sky, while areas of textured, impasto-like paint give the rocks and mountainous background considerable depth and visual presence. The commanding pose of the bird and restrained palette of whites, greys, blues and earthy browns create an atmospheric composition with a distinctly alpine character. The painting is signed and dated 1993 to the lower right. Presented in its original vintage moulded frame with layered gilt and neutral-toned detailing, the work is ready to hang and would make an attractive addition to a traditional, country-house, sporting or wildlife-inspired interior. The painting presents very well overall, with condition consistent with its age. Please refer to the photographs for full details.
