The table features a long rectangular plank top providing an expansive dining surface suitable for large gatherings and entertaining. The present oak plank top is a later replacement, sympathetically chosen to complement the original 18th-century base while ensuring the table remains practical for continued use. Of particular note is the extensively carved frieze, displaying intricate decorative detailing that gives the table considerable architectural character and demonstrates the quality of the original craftsmanship. The substantial base is raised upon boldly turned legs united by a robust stretcher arrangement, creating excellent structural stability while contributing to the commanding period appearance. The oak displays rich, warm tones and an attractive mature patina, particularly across the original base, where centuries of age and use have developed considerable depth and character. Solid, heavy and exceptionally well constructed, the table is presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use. The later replacement top should be considered part of the table's restoration history. At approximately 264 cm long, this is a particularly impressive dining table capable of comfortably accommodating a substantial number of guests, making it ideally suited to a country house, large dining room or characterful contemporary interior.
