The central bureau section opens to provide a practical writing area at a comfortable desk height of 69 cm. Behind, the interior is thoughtfully fitted with multiple compartments, providing organised storage for correspondence, stationery, writing accessories and personal items. A particularly interesting feature is the lift-up upper section, which opens to reveal a concealed mirror together with multiple additional storage compartments. This unusual arrangement gives the piece considerably greater versatility than a conventional bureau and introduces an element of dressing-table functionality to the design. Two useful drawers are incorporated into the lower section, providing further concealed storage. Each is fitted with an attractively carved handle that complements the traditional character of the cabinet. Particularly appealing is the golden oak itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Rich honey-golden tones and an appealing aged patina give the timber considerable warmth, depth and character. Very well constructed with a reassuringly solid feel and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. At only 62 cm wide and 40 cm deep, this is an exceptionally versatile piece, combining a writing surface, fitted storage, drawers and a concealed mirror within a remarkably compact footprint. It would work beautifully as a bureau, writing desk or dressing cabinet within a bedroom, study or smaller interior where space is at a premium.
