The elongated octagonal mirror plate is surrounded by a substantial dark oak frame, displaying a wonderfully deep colour and attractive natural grain developed through generations of age and use. Fine beaded edging follows the outline of the mirror, adding subtle texture and definition to its geometric form. Particularly charming are the turned spindle details incorporated into the frame, giving the mirror additional architectural interest and a distinctive Arts & Crafts-influenced quality. The aged mirror plate retains plenty of authentic character, displaying light spotting and natural ageing in places. The piece also retains its traditional hanging chain, completing its appealing period appearance and allowing it to be displayed immediately. Its unusual horizontal proportions make it particularly effective above a console table, fireplace, sideboard or chest of drawers. The combination of strong geometry and richly aged oak allows it to complement both traditional period interiors and more contemporary decorative schemes. Presented in good antique condition overall, with expected age-related marks, surface wear and patination to the timber.
