Torrini, depicting a lively tavern interior with soldiers enjoying wine in the company of a young serving woman. The composition centres upon a seated cavalier raising his glass while a second figure stands behind him, apparently joining in the convivial exchange. The young woman beside them provides a graceful counterpoint, her carefully rendered costume and poised expression adding charm and narrative interest to the scene. Executed in oil on canvas, the work demonstrates accomplished figurative painting, with particular attention paid to costume, facial expression and the subdued light of the tavern interior.
