The oval locket is beautifully embellished with intricate hand-pierced decoration depicting **birds amongst foliage**, a particularly characteristic Aesthetic Movement subject inspired by nature and Japanese decorative arts. The composition is further enriched with finely executed bright-cut engraving, while the surrounding border is also extensively hand engraved. The locket is suspended from its **original fancy-link silver chain or collar**, itself beautifully decorated with finely engraved floral motifs. The substantial decorative links complement the ornamentation of the pendant, creating an especially attractive and cohesive Victorian jewellery ensemble. Although unmarked, the locket and chain have been tested as **high-grade silver**. The locket retains its interior fittings, while the chain clasp remains in good working order. Together, the pendant and chain have a **combined gross weight of approximately 48 grams**. Presented in very good antique condition with a beautiful bright patina. There are no noted holes, bruises, damage or repairs, and the piece is clean and ready to wear. The locket and chain are accompanied by a modern presentation box.
