Of substantial circular form, the surface is finely hand engraved with elegant foliate and floral motifs. A gadrooned and beaded border frames the composition, providing an attractive decorative contrast to the polished central field. The salver is raised upon three graceful cabriole legs, each further embellished with beaded detailing. The centre bears a historic heraldic crest accompanied by the latin motto “tenax et fidelis,” translating as “persevering and faithful.” crafted from heavy-gauge sterling silver, the salver has an impressive net silver weight of approximately 943.7 grams, giving the piece considerable quality and presence. Fully hallmarked for london 1785, this substantial georgian salver represents a particularly attractive example of late 18th-century english silver and would serve equally well as a functional serving piece or an important decorative display object.
