The substantial scale gives the fireplace exceptional architectural presence, making it particularly suitable for a large drawing room, reception room, dining room or other interior requiring a commanding period focal point. Its integrated combination design brings the mantel, surround, fire opening and grate together within one cohesive composition. Constructed from substantial cast iron, the fireplace displays finely defined decorative details throughout, demonstrating the quality of British architectural ironwork associated with the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The fireplace has undergone a comprehensive professional refurbishment. Historic layers of paint were painstakingly removed by hand rather than through shot blasting, helping to protect the original cast iron surface and preserve the crisp definition of the decorative casting. Following stripping, the entire fireplace was carefully wire brushed to both the front and reverse. Traditional grate polish was then applied and buffed by brush, producing a rich gunmetal appearance that beautifully accentuates the depth, texture and detail of the ironwork. The reverse has also been professionally prepared and spray painted, ensuring that the fireplace has been fully refurbished from front to back. An impressive piece of period architectural ironwork combining exceptional height, substantial proportions, beautifully defined casting and a professionally restored traditional finish.
