Reclaimed from a period property in stockbridge, edinburgh, this substantial architectural piece displays the elaborate cast decoration and exceptional quality of workmanship associated with falkirk's celebrated iron production. The fireplace features richly detailed cast ornamentation with crisp architectural and decorative elements throughout. Above, the integrated overmantel incorporates a large mirror, creating an imposing floor-to-ceiling presence and making the fireplace an exceptional focal point for a drawing room, dining room, library or grand reception space. The entire cast iron surround and overmantel have undergone an extensive professional refurbishment. Multiple historic layers of paint were carefully removed by hand rather than through shot blasting, helping to preserve the integrity and definition of the original castings. Following stripping, the cast iron was thoroughly wire brushed to the front and reverse before being treated with traditional grate polish and carefully buffed to reveal the crisp detailing and rich character of the ironwork. The reverse has also been professionally finished, resulting in a comprehensively restored architectural piece ready for installation. With its scottish provenance, imposing scale and elaborate victorian castings, this is an outstanding example of late 19th-century architectural ironwork and a particularly striking statement fireplace. The sale includes the cast iron fireplace surround and overmantel mirror only. The blue and white tiled insert and hearth shown in the photographs are not included and are pictured for illustrative purposes only.
