The upper section incorporates two useful small drawers, providing convenient storage for smaller household items while contributing to the distinctive arrangement of the façade. Immediately below is one of the most interesting features of the piece: a cleverly designed lift-up cupboard disguised as three conventional drawer fronts. When closed, this creates the appearance of a traditional bank of drawers, while opening to reveal a generous concealed storage compartment. The lower section features a practical brushing slide positioned above three genuine drawers, providing further useful storage and adding to the versatility of the cabinet. The drawers retain their original brass handles and fittings, providing an attractive contrast against the warm tones of the oak while preserving the established character of the piece. Standing on sturdy bracket feet, the cupboard has a substantial and well-balanced appearance while retaining relatively compact dimensions. Particularly attractive is the decorative cross-banding used throughout the cabinet, which provides definition to the design and complements the beautiful natural figuring of the oak. The timber displays gorgeous grain, rich warm colouring and attractive tonal variation throughout, giving the cupboard considerable depth and character. At only 65 cm wide, the piece provides an impressive amount of storage within a relatively narrow footprint. Its unusual combination of drawers, concealed lift-up storage and brushing slide makes it particularly versatile for a hallway, dining room, study, bedroom or living space. Presented in good vintage condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 20th-century origin. A highly desirable and distinctive oak cupboard combining beautiful cross-banding, original brass fittings, an ingenious concealed compartment, practical brushing slide and generous drawer storage within an unusual and exceptionally functional design.
