The fireplace features an elegant arched opening surrounded by a particularly attractive series of raised circular bosses, complemented by geometric and architectural detailing across the frieze. Further circular motifs decorate the upper corners and central section, while the substantial projecting mantel and stepped base give the piece a strong architectural presence. A surviving Victorian diamond registration mark indicates a date prior to 1884, helping establish the fireplace firmly within the Victorian period. The fireplace has been comprehensively refurbished using traditional methods. Layers of old paint have been carefully removed by hand rather than shot blasting, helping preserve the definition and crispness of the original castings. The entire fireplace has subsequently been wire brushed, treated with traditional grate polish and buffed to enhance the rich graphite finish and highlight its decorative details. The reverse has also been refinished, resulting in a thoroughly restored presentation from front to back. with its beautifully preserved cast decoration, architectural proportions and authentic Victorian character, this fireplace would make an impressive focal point within a period interior or an elegant architectural contrast in a contemporary setting. Please note that the rear of the arched opening has an approximately 1 cm projection which may require recessing slightly into the surrounding plasterwork during installation.
