A glamorous original French Art Deco figural table lamp dating to circa 1930, combining a sculptural female dancer with polished chrome, richly veined marble and an original hand-moulded opaline glass globe. The composition captures the fascination with dance, movement and the stylised female form that became synonymous with French decorative arts of the 1920s and 1930s. The elegantly modelled figure is finished in highly polished chrome, giving the sculpture a brilliant reflective surface and distinctly sophisticated Art Deco character. The figure supports an original neckless globe shade fashioned from hand-moulded cased opaline glass. Its softly coloured surface diffuses the illumination into a warm atmospheric glow while providing a striking contrast against the polished metallic figure. The composition is anchored by a substantial veined marble base, complemented by bronze and brass fittings. The lamp also retains an original Bakelite Crater inline switch, a particularly attractive period detail. An evocative example of interwar French decorative lighting that functions equally successfully as sculpture, accent lighting or a statement piece for an Art Deco interior.
