An exceptionally decorative and substantial early 20th-century column table lamp, combining richly veined marble, cast bronze and a remarkable panelled glass shade in a sophisticated neoclassical and art deco-influenced composition. Standing an impressive 64 cm tall and weighing approximately 10.8 lb, the lamp is constructed around a substantial stepped veined marble plinth, retaining its original brass base plate. Rising from the base is an elegant marble column displaying naturally occurring veins of cream, ochre and warm reddish tones. The column is framed by finely cast bronze mounts, including a wreath-decorated lower collar and an ornate upper capital embellished with foliate garland detailing. A shaped bronze neck supports the ventilated gallery, which retains its locking bolts and b22 bayonet-fit bulb holder. The lamp is crowned by a particularly unusual faceted acorn-form glass shade, composed of geometric panels with alternating acid-etched decoration and gilt-highlighted detailing. Its angular geometry provides an attractive contrast to the classical column below and produces a warm, softly diffused light when illuminated. An especially interesting surviving detail is the unusual lathe-turned english oak inline pear switch, described as dating to the 19th century, with its mechanical lateral action and white bakelite push controls. The lamp also retains a vintage mk three-round-pin bakelite plug. Professionally restored and rewired using period-appropriate three-core silk-braided twisted cable, the lamp has been earthed, tested and is presented in working order. A highly distinctive statement lamp with considerable decorative presence, particularly suited to a console, library, drawing room or sophisticated period interior. Material veined marble, cast bronze, brass, acid-etched glass, gilt decoration, oak and bakelite measurements displayed in photos.
