Monumental in proportion despite its relatively compact size, the lamp combines classical urn-inspired design with the clean materials and detailing associated with mid-to-late 20th-century decorative lighting. The hollow ovoid body is carved from translucent white alabaster, displaying naturally occurring grey and cream veining that varies across the surface and gives the lamp considerable visual depth. When illuminated, the stone's translucency allows it to diffuse a particularly soft and atmospheric glow, accentuating the natural variations within the material. Its form draws upon classical medici and amphora-style vessels, with a broad rounded body tapering elegantly towards a turned spherical knop and pedestal stem. The sculptural body is supported by a series of stepped square alabaster plinths, giving the lamp a strong architectural profile. Particularly distinctive is the thick, clear faceted acrylic platform incorporated between the stepped stone sections of the base. The transparent material creates the impression that part of the alabaster structure is floating, introducing a distinctly modern counterpoint to the otherwise neoclassical silhouette. The combination of translucent stone and clear acrylic gives the lamp an appealing balance between traditional and modern design, making it particularly suitable for classical, hollywood regency, mid-century or contemporary interiors. The underside retains a label for crystal clear industries. The lamp has been wired for electrical use, is in working order and has been pat tested. A substantial decorative object in its own right, weighing approximately 5.8 kg, this lamp has considerable presence on a console, side table or bedside cabinet.
