The glazed upper section incorporates two adjustable shelves, creating three generously proportioned display areas suitable for books, ceramics, glassware, collectibles or objets d'art. The adjustable shelving allows pieces of varying heights to be accommodated with ease. The central section incorporates an attractive mirror above the bureau. Opening the writing section reveals a thoughtfully fitted interior with useful compartments for correspondence, stationery and personal items. A green writing surface provides an elegant and practical workspace while creating an attractive contrast against the rich mahogany. Below are two useful drawers, providing additional concealed storage while retaining their original brass handles and fittings. The substantial lower section comprises a double-door cupboard opening to reveal a single internal shelf, offering further generous storage for books, documents or household items. The cabinet is beautifully carved throughout with decorative detailing inspired by the celebrated Chippendale tradition, giving the tall structure considerable architectural and sculptural presence. The mahogany displays pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout, complemented by deep, warm colour and an appealing aged patina. Original brass hardware further enhances the period character of the piece. The bureau bookcase is raised upon traditional ogee feet, providing a strong and beautifully proportioned foundation for its impressive 218 cm height. Very well constructed and presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. A rare and highly decorative example combining the functions of bookcase, display cabinet, writing bureau and storage cupboard within a single commanding piece. Ideally suited to a library, study, drawing room or distinguished period interior.
