The substantial mirror plate is housed within a finely constructed mahogany frame and can be adjusted to the desired viewing angle, providing excellent functionality while retaining the graceful appearance of a traditional cheval mirror. The frame is supported between elegant upright supports, creating a well-balanced and refined silhouette. The base retains its brass castors, allowing the mirror to be repositioned with relative ease while adding an attractive period detail. Particularly appealing is the decorative cabinet work. Fine satinwood stringing provides an elegant contrast against the richly coloured mahogany, while carefully executed mahogany crossbanding further enhances the frame and demonstrates the attention to detail invested in its construction. The mahogany displays beautiful natural grain and rich, warm colouring throughout, giving the piece considerable depth and established character. The mirror plate displays some gentle age-related foxing, an attractive characteristic that contributes authentic antique charm and reflects the history of the piece without detracting from its overall decorative appeal. Very well made and of good quality, the mirror demonstrates the elegant proportions and refined decorative detailing associated with Edwardian furniture. Standing 149 cm high, it provides a substantial reflective surface while maintaining relatively compact proportions, making it particularly suitable for a bedroom, dressing room, hallway or dressing area. The combination of adjustable mirror plate, richly coloured mahogany, satinwood stringing, crossbanded decoration and brass castors makes this a particularly attractive and desirable example. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its early 20th-century origin, including gentle foxing to the mirror plate. A highly desirable Edwardian cheval mirror combining elegant proportions, quality craftsmanship and refined decorative detailing within a timeless freestanding design.
