Very well made and of fine quality, this handsome cabinet offers an excellent balance of display and practical storage within particularly compact and elegant proportions. The central glazed cabinet incorporates three internal shelves, creating four useful display levels and providing an attractive setting for fine china, glassware, ceramics and treasured collectibles. Beneath the glazed section is a separate enclosed storage compartment, providing useful concealed space for household items that can be kept neatly out of sight. Above the cabinet is an attractive bevel-edged mirror, surmounted by a decorative raised gallery. This architectural upper section adds considerable height and visual interest while enhancing the refined appearance of the overall design. The cabinet retains all of its original handles and fittings, contributing further to its character and desirability. Raised on elegant cabriole legs fitted with castors, the cabinet has a graceful and well-balanced silhouette. The castors also allow the piece to be repositioned more easily when required. The mahogany is particularly attractive, displaying beautiful natural grain, rich warm colouring and appealing tonal variation throughout. The quality of the timber complements the glass and mirror elements while giving the cabinet considerable warmth and sophistication. The combination of glazed display space, three internal shelves, concealed lower storage, bevel-edged mirror and decorative gallery creates a particularly versatile and visually interesting composition. Measuring just 49.5 cm wide and 40 cm deep, the cabinet provides considerable storage and display capacity within a compact footprint, making it particularly useful where space is limited. Presented in good vintage condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 20th-century origin. A highly desirable mahogany cabinet combining fine craftsmanship, practical storage, elegant glazed display space and beautifully considered decorative details within a compact and sophisticated design.
