The substantial rectangular mirror is surrounded by richly toned mahogany displaying a wonderful depth of colour and attractive aged character. The frame has an elegant architectural composition, with shaped mouldings and carved period detailing giving the piece a strong yet refined presence. Particularly striking is the carved upper pediment, which crowns the mirror and provides an additional sculptural element typical of more elaborate Victorian interior furnishings. The combination of warm mahogany, traditional carving and generous mirror plate creates an exceptionally handsome statement piece. At 115 cm wide, the mirror has excellent scale for positioning above a fireplace or substantial console, although it would work equally well as a standalone feature in a hallway, drawing room, dining room or bedroom. Its restrained yet distinctly Victorian design also allows it to sit comfortably within contemporary interiors, where the rich antique timber provides an attractive contrast against more minimalist furnishings. Presented in almost excellent antique condition overall, retaining excellent decorative presence with only minor age-related wear consistent with its considerable age.
