Model 511 (“Starfish Chandelier”), designed by Uno & Östen Kristiansson for the Swedish manufacturer Luxus in Vittsjö (circa 1950s/1960s).
The organically sculptural, five-armed structure is made of solid teak, combined with five teardrop-shaped shades of fine white opal glass, creating a soft, glare-free ambient light. An iconic example of Scandinavian mid-century modern design. The attribution is based on well-documented historical examples.
Excellent vintage condition with a beautiful patina. Wood cleaned and oiled. All five opal glass shades are flawless, without chips or cracks. Original wiring is functional. Small historical cut in the wooden canopy for cable routing (see photos). This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution,
Up to 250V (Europe/UK Standard). The wiring of this item may be original and might need replacement, if not specified otherwise.
