A covered majolica tureen from the Cerreto / Naples region, dating to around 1780. The rounded body is raised on a short foot and fitted with two modelled side handles in the form of leaves or flowers, painted in green and yellow. The cover is crowned by a fruit-shaped finial with attached leaves, also painted in yellow and green. Both body and cover are decorated with green bands and repeating floral sprays on a cream ground, with additional green painted elements outlining the form.
The decoration is executed in the characteristic style of late 18th-century Neapolitan and Cerreto majolica, combining modelled details with simple, lively painted ornament. The tureen shows normal age-related wear consistent with its period.
A fine example of southern Italian majolica tableware, combining practical form with decorative modelling and colour.
