This exceptional Chinese Art Deco carpet embodies the transitional aesthetics of the early 20th century, merging traditional Far Eastern symbolism with the bold, simplified forms of Western modernism. Such pieces are highly sought after among collectors of antique rugs.

The dramatic palette is defined by a deep, saturated field of red color, providing a luxurious backdrop for the meandering vine and floral composition. This rich hue contrasts sharply with the luminous saffron yellow border, framed by a subtle sage green guard band, creating an effect of profound visual depth and warmth suitable for sophisticated interiors.

Characteristic of the finest Deco Chinese weaving, the design utilizes negative space masterfully. Elegant branches bearing wisteria, peonies, and grape clusters trail across the field, populated by stylized birds and butterflies—symbols of longevity and marital happiness. The execution is precise, relying on thick pile and minimal shading to emphasize the graphic quality of the composition.

Measuring generously, this textile functions beautifully among room size rugs, capable of anchoring a main living area or dining space. Its enduring quality and vibrant, yet sophisticated, coloration make it a defining statement piece, reflecting the height of Chinese Art Deco production before the disruptions of the mid-century.
