It features slender scrolling supports, circular stone surfaces, classical ornament and stylized animal-form feet with casters. The three legs descend in gentle curves toward triangular stretcher centered by a decorative bud or acorn-form finial. The table also features a circular stone top, set within a raised brass surround with finely detailed edging. Curved supports descend from beneath the top and connect to a smaller circular lower shelf. The Gueridon table originated in France in the 17th century as a small decorative table, often circular in shape. Originally used for displaying candlesticks and decorative objects, the form developed into a diverse category of occasional furniture. This table is a modern adaptation of that tradition, retaining the circular form and ornamental character while providing the scale and practicality of a contemporary side table.
