This exceptional hand-knotted wool piece, dating to the 1920s, embodies the refined aesthetic of the early Art Deco period. Its rectangular format and minimalist design make it a versatile addition to any collection of antique rugs, showcasing the subtle elegance achieved through restraint and high-quality craftsmanship.

The central field is dominated by a deep, saturated navy, providing a dramatic contrast to the wide, luminous border rendered in pale beige and ivory. This rich hue is characteristic of sophisticated early 20th-century Chinese designs, creating a striking visual foundation. The careful selection of saturated dyes ensures that the deep field color, typical of blue color rugs, retains its depth and presence.

Adorning the dark field are delicate, stylized floral sprigs rendered in cream and pale gold, accented by subtle blue leaves. These motifs are intentionally sparse and scattered, allowing the luxurious texture of the pile wool to take prominence, reflecting a movement away from dense, traditional patterns toward modern simplicity.

While listed as a rectangle, the elongated proportions suggest it would function beautifully in a transitional space. Its durable construction and elegant scale make it perfectly suited for use as one of our refined hallway runner rugs or a statement piece in a narrow sitting room, offering a century of proven quality and enduring style.
