This exceptional Chinese Peking carpet from the early Republican period showcases the restrained elegance characteristic of the era. The expansive field is saturated in a deep, luxurious indigo, offering a sophisticated foundation that places it among the finest examples of blue color rugs.

The design centers on a subtle, finely rendered medallion composed of stylized peonies and scrolling foliage. This central motif, along with the corner spandrels, utilizes a palette of soft cream and muted sage green, providing a gentle contrast against the saturated ground. Such pieces are highly sought after by collectors of refined antique rugs.

A delicate, meandering border frames the composition, featuring continuous vines interspersed with circular and octagonal cartouches. These geometric elements often house auspicious symbols, a hallmark of traditional Chinese weaving. The wool quality is superb, resulting in a plush, yet finely knotted pile that has retained its luster over the past century.

Woven on a grand scale, this carpet is perfectly proportioned for modern living spaces, making it an ideal example of room size rugs. Its monumental presence and timeless color scheme ensure it functions as a centerpiece, lending an air of historical sophistication and tranquility to any environment. See less
