This is an elegant vintage square jewelry or keepsake box, crafted from Zitan wood (purple sandalwood) with a rich, dark brown-black finish.
The lid is beautifully decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay, depicting a yellow bird perched on a flowering branch. The inlay is rendered in shimmering white and pale yellow, with delicate iridescent green and purple accents on the bird's tail feathers and the leaves. The wood displays a distinct "ox hair" grain texture and a smooth, lustrous patina.
The box features a lift-off lid and is finished with a prominent circular brass lock plate with a traditional hasp and pin closure on the front. The interior is spacious and unadorned, providing ample storage for jewelry, small trinkets, or important keepsakes. This piece is both a functional storage box and a beautiful example of traditional Chinese decorative arts.
