This vintage earthenware pitcher presents a full, rounded belly that rises to a gently narrowed neck and a softly pinched, pouring spout, balanced by a sturdy, looped strap handle. The body is thrown with pronounced horizontal ribbing that wraps the entire form, creating a rhythmic, tactile surface that catches light and shadow along each ridge. A mottled, speckled glaze in verdant jade and deep teal pools within the grooves and breaks into lighter celadon highlights along the crests. Across the shoulders and belly, the glaze recedes in irregular, map-like patches to reveal the warm, unglazed terracotta clay beneath, producing a striking, organic contrast between cool green and earthy russet. The handle is fully glazed in saturated green with a soft, satiny finish that echoes the vessel’s studio-pottery character. Subtle tooling marks, visible throwing lines, and the natural variation in the glaze reflect an unmistakably handmade origin. Earthy, expressive, and quietly sculptural, the pitcher feels like a small piece of landscape rendered in clay.
Place this pitcher on a kitchen counter, open shelf, dining table, or sideboard, or use it as a rustic vase for garden blooms, branches, or dried grasses. It complements Mid-Century Modern, Organic Modern, Rustic, Bohemian, and Farmhouse interiors. To care for it, hand wash gently with mild soap and warm water, avoid soaking or dishwashers, and dry thoroughly, as the exposed clay is porous; it is best suited to decorative or dry display use. The pitcher measures 8 inches (203 mm) wide, 7 inches (178 mm) deep, and 5 inches (127 mm) high. Condition is very good, with an original glaze, noticeable glaze loss consistent with age, and no visible cracks or repairs. Add this characterful piece to your table today.
