This is an elegant vintage rectangular keepsake box, crafted from Zitan wood (purple sandalwood) and decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay.
The lid features a dynamic inlay scene depicting the classic Chinese motif of a dragon and a phoenix (Longfeng) flying amongst stylized clouds, flanking a central flaming pearl. The inlay is rendered in shimmering white, with subtle iridescent pink and green accents. The corners of the lid are further embellished with delicate, scrolling vine shell inlays.
The box is constructed with traditional joinery and features a circular brass lock plate on the front. The wood displays a rich, dark brown-black tone with a distinct "ox hair" grain texture and a smooth, lustrous patina. The lid fits securely, making it perfect for storing jewelry, small trinkets, or keepsakes.
