This is a substantial and exquisitely carved vintage treasure box (also known as a curio or duobaohe box), crafted from rosewood (huali wood) with a rich, warm golden-brown finish.
The box features a complex "nine-grid" (jiugongge) design on its lid, composed of nine individual, intricately carved panels of varying sizes that fit together like a puzzle. The exterior sides are deeply carved in high relief with a continuous, flowing pattern of scrolling lotus vines (known as the "Ten Thousand Longevity Vine" or wanshouteng), symbolizing continuous prosperity and longevity.
The lid is designed to be lifted off, revealing a partitioned interior with multiple compartments for organizing small treasures, jewelry, or seals. Each of the nine top panels is fitted with a small metal pull or latch. The box rests on a decorative base with stylized, cloud-like bracket feet. This impressive piece is a beautiful example of traditional Chinese woodcraft and a highly functional organizer or display piece.
